A benefit of having the 33rd running of one of thoroughbred racing's most prestigious international events, the Breeders Cup World Championships at Santa Anita Park (Saturday for a record, 9th time) Hollywood, California is the celebrities who'll mingle among the horse-people. 

DemoCast asked some of the celebs who came to predict the winning horses who they like to win the presidential race. Of particular note is actress Susan Sarandon, a social activist who publicly broke with the liberal party line to reject Hillary Clinton as 'way more dangerous than Donald Trump.' She said, in an interview with the BBC, based on what she saw during the primaries, the DNC is "so corrupt, it's not worthy of our votes."

Jeremy Bird, the national field director for President Obama’s 2012 re-election campaign, specializes in the revolutionary tactics infamously pioneered by radical community organizer Saul Alinsky.

Jeremy Bird is largely known for his 2012 campaign role, where he was central to building what he described as “the strongest grassroots organization in the history of American presidential politics.”

He explained Obama’s 2012 re-election infrastructure, aptly titled Organizing for America, had 631 offices in swing states alone, compared to challenger Mitt Romney’s 282.

According to Politico, Obama’s grassroots network — led by 270 Strategies’ Bird and Mitch Stewart — encompassed “10,000 neighborhood team leaders, 30,000 core team members and 2 million volunteers.”

Bird’s re-election team reportedly utilized publicly available information on voters, collecting as many as “500 data points on a single voter, from his reading habits to his opinions on the economy,” according to a 2013 Bloomberg profile.

Alan Bergstein writes in BIZPAC Review:  "The Palm Beach County Democratic Party on Tuesday let loose its new weapon, something I call the "Jewish Grandmothers Group," designed to stifle free speech. At the Ross Jewish Community Center in Boynton Beach, Mark Alan Siegel, the chairman of the local party, joined Rabbi Barry Silver to square off in a debate with Christian-Zionist Tom Trento and me. The topic: Should Jews vote for Obama or Romney?  In what should come as no surprise by now, the informational event was closed down early because of threats of disorder.


An early "uh-oh" sign popped up in our heads when, just one hour before the doors were opened, the JCC informed us that all videotaping and cameras were banned from the room. Just the day before, a JCC official carefully planned where the best locations for the cameras would be. Why was the recording of the event canceled? We found out during the meeting. Obviously, with the disruptions so well-planned, the Democrats wanted no record of this behavior to reach the public. They succeeded. An early band of about 50 elderly women, brandishing professionally designed "Women Will Remember in November" signs, occupied the front of the auditorium. Some had Obama stickers glued to their foreheads. The table occupied by Tom and me had a contingent of these seniors in the standing-room-only area right by us. During the event, until it was closed down because of their disruptive antics, they sauntered over to us, uttering denunciations and comments.

During the debate, this raucous, rude, disrespectful, well-trained squad heckled, jeered and disrupted Tom and me so often that I announced to the time keeper that my speaking time had to be extended in order to compensate for the disorder in the room. The final straw came when a woman, adorned with an Obama sticker, was hauled away from the microphone while shouting indecipherable epithets. Armed security personnel roamed the hall to threaten anyone with an exposed camera that they were to be expelled for having them in view.

Just recall the Democrats' attempts to prevent their members from hearing the issues as explained by Republicans. Debbie Wasserman Schultz in Miami, or the threat of Republicans being arrested at B'nai Torah in Boca Raton. Then there was the debate between Democrats and Republicans that was canceled by the sponsor, Hadassah, apparently at Wasserman Schultz's request.

It's clear that the Democratic Party in South Florida is fearful of its loyal members hearing anything that contradicts the tales told them by party leaders. "Keep them ignorant" is the mantra of the left. The media is already complicit with this group. Taking away open, clean, clear dialogue that leads to one making his/her own decisions on such matters as Israel, abortion, taxation or even education is as dangerous to Democrats as kryptonite is to Superman. "Keep free speech at arm's length from the sheep" is their motto.

The Beer Hall Putsch of 1923 was a failed revolution by which Adolf Hitler and other members of the Nazi Party attempted to seize control of Munich, Bavaria and Germany. Hoping to gain power over Germany and reign as a dictator, Hitler staged a coup d'etat during a speech from Bavarian Commisioner Gustav von Kahr at a beer hall in Munich. Hitler was able to establish some control over Munich, but soon it was obvious that the coup wasn't making much real progress. Hitler and other members of his group then decided to stage a march much like the March to Rome in Italy, but were soon stopped and arrested by Bavarian officers.

These incidents are reminiscent of the 1923 Munich Beer Hall Putsch that catapulted Hitler into the limelight. These incidents should send warning bells off in the heads of those who fear the loss of free speech and the dialogue that is expected and welcomed in a democracy such as ours. If the behavior of the "Jewish Grandmothers Group" is an indication that the vast, liberal Jewish community is in the hands of those who would turn this nation into another Nazi Germany, communist Russia, North Korea or Cuba, then all of us, Jews and non-Jews alike, and our descendants will suffer the inevitable fate of tyrannical rule by the few."

Politically, however, too many Jews who are seen as shapers of public opinion often appear to be blind to evil in the world. They cannot seem to recognize those who would kill them and their fellow countrymen. N.Y. Times Op-Ed by Tom Friedman acknowledges the Jihad against the West; will the Left finally accept it?

The N.Y. Times Op-Ed page published a Tom Friedman-penned piece entitled www.Jihad.com (although he didn't mention the word Islamism. Will that be enough for the Left to accept that Islamism is a real political threat?

So please tell me, how are we supposed to help build something decent and self-sustaining in Afghanistan and Pakistan when jihadists murder other Muslims by the dozens and no one really calls them out?

A corrosive mind-set has taken hold since 9/11. It says that Arabs and Muslims are only objects, never responsible for anything in their world, and we are the only subjects, responsible for everything that happens in their world. We infantilize them.

Arab and Muslims are not just objects. They are subjects. They aspire to, are able to and must be challenged to take responsibility for their world. If we want a peaceful, tolerant region more than they do, they will hold our coats while we fight, and they will hold their tongues against their worst extremists. They will lose, and we will lose — here and there, in the real Afghanistan and in the Virtual Afghanistan.

The results are in and my candidate lost the presidency. Since I love this country, I wish the newly named President Barack Obama every success. But this was an election unlike any other. I don't think the Republicans merely lost an election, I believe many of us lost a country.

This was a land that once rewarded hard work and enterprise. A place where one's word was his bond. America was the land of opportunity. If you can't do it here, you cannot do it anywhere. We were a people to be envied, not only because we had the highest standard living, but because we had the greatest degree of stability.

Americans were notoriously optimistic because we counted on tomorrow being better than yesterday. We were an open people dependent on fair play and a free market bounded by a standard of virtue. With all the blemishes in our past and breaches in our own ethics, we were a model of civic rectitude. "Dems that gives, gets;" those who wish to bilk the system will be discovered and isolated.

There was a time not so long ago when people did not depend on government to bail them out of financial difficulty, a time when the nanny state bred apprehension, not affection. Now, it seems, in the new America almost everyone wants a free ride. The non-tax payer wants a rebate from the taxpayer. The poor man wants everything the rich man has and he wants the rich man to give it to him.

Enemies of the nation, it turns out, are not enemies at all; we merely defined them as adversaries. Had we been clever in the past, we could have defined them out of existence. All we have to do is engage in "soft power," diplomacy and clever negotiating skill. Surely those who want to kill us will be persuaded that swords should be converted into plowshares. It's odd, but Osama bin Laden doesn't seem to embrace this position.

The America of now is one where Orwellian logic rules. Redistribution of wealth is fairness. Taxes are patriotic. The free market should be a regulated market. Big government is good for you. Politicians know what kind of health care is best for you. Choice should be limited, except when it comes to abortion. Power comes from being powerless. Progressive education is designed to promote progress toward socialism. Race doesn't count unless a person of color tells you it counts. Higher education gets lower each year. Those who create our problems should be asked to solve them. Religion should be a private matter that does not inform public morality. Liberal is radical. Free speech is selective speech. Courage is impetuousness.

Yes, Americans - many Americans - want change. The level of dissatisfaction runs deep. But the national cri de coeur hasn't a direction. That's what makes it so dangerous. Americans live better than at any moment in our collective history, notwithstanding the meltdown on Wall Street, yet despair is ubiquitous. Admittedly observing 401K accounts disappear as soap bubbles will make anyone angry. Nonetheless, it is a privilege to live in the land of the free, a privilege now regarded as an entitlement.

It was once wrong to use community groups such as ACORN to steal an election. It was once wrong to conceal one's past in order to invent an identity. It was once wrong to use the instrument of government finance to satisfy a constituency and then claim an unregulated market is what ails us. It was once wrong to lie in a campaign and still is except when the media panjandrums avert their gaze for the lies of a favored candidate.

Surely we face threats across the globe that cannot be easily forestalled. Arguably the most significant threat is from within in the form of an unregulated government, a government large, intrusive and seductive. This is the new American government that promises everything and demands very little from its citizens. "Shop until you drop" is the national anthem. After all, you don't have to fight if you don't want to and you don't have to sacrifice if that's too much for you. All you have to do is visit malls and keep opinions to yourself. Opinions are important since Truth Squads want to be sure you don't criticize the chosen candidate.

Where is my America, the place of fair play, individual rights, the rule of law and respect for private property? Was the past merely a dream from which I have awakened? Can that America of exceptionalism return? Can it find its way back into the public consciousness?

I have my doubts. Now the change agents scream "everything will be different." Alas, they are right. It appears as if everything will be different, most especially the end of an America I loved.
