William Shatner, John Stossel, and Steve Forbes validate libertarianism at Freedom Fest

FreedomFest shows the Liberty Movement is Alive and Well by Lee Edwards, Ph.D. in Heritage.Org, 27 July 17

While Hollywood actor William Shatner, TV commentator John Stossel, documentary movie maker Dinesh D’Souza, economist Steve Moore, political philosopher George Gilder, and entrepreneur John Mackey, among others, were all well-received at the 10th anniversary of Freedom Fest in Las Vegas last week, the favorite of the 2,100 libertarians assembled was Steve Forbes—magazine publisher, best-selling author, two-time presidential candidate, Heritage Foundation trustee, and homely philosopher.

Video: Steve Forbes, introduced by John Stossel, discusses capitalism

Following the off-key but spirited rendition of “Happy Birthday, Dear Steve,” Forbes thanked the crowd for their best wishes on his 70th birthday and proceeded to extoll the many virtues of capitalism. He praised capitalism for being entrepreneurial, creative, innovative, and “a force for good.” (He is no Randian apostle of radical egoism.)

John Stossel shows transition from mainstream news to independent publishing

Firmly pro-life as well as being a libertarian, Forbes remarked: “Our founders understood well: First life, then liberty, then the pursuit of happiness.”Like F. A. Hayek, Forbes acknowledges the importance of traditional morality. “Free markets are moral,” Forbes once told an interviewer, “because they’re fundamentally about meeting the real-world needs and wants of others. … Economic freedom is moral because it does the best job of any system in channeling our self-interest into positive, productive activities that benefit all of society.”

The Steve Forbes’ celebration was an apt ending to Freedom Fest, which was smoothly organized as usual by the economist and classical liberal Mark Skousen. He builds a bigger tent each year, both for libertarians and for conservatives like myself who are curious about the current mindset of our liberty-loving colleagues.  Read More:

DemoCast asked some of the celebs who came to predict the winning horses who they like to win the presidential race. Of particular note is actress Susan Sarandon, a social activist who publicly broke with the liberal party line to reject Hillary Clinton as 'way more dangerous than Donald Trump.' She said, in an interview with the BBC, based on what she saw during the primaries, the DNC is "so corrupt, it's not worthy of our votes."

Susan Sarandon publicly denounced Hillary Clinton's candidacy
We spoke with Allison Janney, Emmy-Award winner for her portrayal of C.J. Cregg on TV's "The West Wing; and

Philem McAleer dramatized depositions of Hillary's abetters
Irish documentary filmmaker, Phelim McAleer also addressed American Freedom Alliance's summer picnic in Los Angeles.

"Phelim McAleer's "Clinton Email On Film" is based on depositions given by top Clinton aides to the watchdog group Judicial Watch, the latest from adviser Huma Abedin. "It's compelling viewing — as she is in turn petulant, defiant and then apologetic," he said.

From the Washington Examiner
McAleer's films show actors re-enacting the real depositions, which were filmed but sealed from public view. "We only made these re-enactments because Hillary's lawyers managed to persuade the judge to seal the tapes until after the election. That's just not good enough, and by spreading these films you are helping to end censorship," he said of his productions. So far, he has re-enacted four depositions, by Abedin, Clinton legal adviser Cheryl Mills, tech adviser Bryan Pagliano and Clinton's State Department secretary Stephen Mull."

CPAC integrates Mark Levin and Brent Bozell points; Global security on new CPAC leaders' agenda

Mark Levin accepts Citizens United,'s Defender of the 1st Amendment Award
The American Conservative Union (ACU) and its signature event, the Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) are heading in a more conservative direction, ACU's new chairman Matt Schlapp told Matthew Boyle of Breitbart News.

The primary theme for CPAC 2015 is “Conservative Action Starts Here.” He referenced how Breitbart News and other conservatives held, at CPAC 2013 and CPAC 2014, panels called
“The Uninvited”and “The Uninvited II,” because of a lack of focus on social and national security issues at CPAC those years.

The divide wasn’t just found at those Uninvited panels, though–conservatives inside CPAC raised their concerns with leaders like Citizens United’s Dave Bossie, the Media Research Center’s Brent Bozell, and others speaking up about the concerns in the building. Because of those struggles in recent years, and concerted efforts by the ACU to listen to grassroots concerns about the direction of the landmark conference, the organization is now emerging as stronger, more conservative and more united. (Matthew Boyle in Breitbart News, Feb. 16, 2015)
Democracy Broadcasting News attended the 2014 CPAC and brings you original photo and video excerpts of those issues. The Washington Times presented "Idol Live,"a professional review competition for young political journalists, such as Emily Hoosier (pictured) at the 2014 event.

Marco Rubio (R-FL), Ted Cruz (R-TX), Rand Paul (R-KY), former Pennsylvania Sen. Rick Santorum, real estate magnate Donald Trump, former Hewlett-Packard CEO Carly Fiorina, Indiana Gov.
