Was the airplane of Israel's new chief of the disputed territories sabotaged?

Israeli Brigadier General Munir Amar, chief of the Coordinator of Government Activities in the Territories Unit (COGAT), was killed on Friday when the light plane he piloted crashed into a cliff about fifteen minutes after takeoff, Israeli news site Ynet reported. Gen. Amar, the only person aboard, had only assumed the role from a Jewish Israeli 7-weeks ago.

COGAT's website describes the unit as "responsible for implementing the government's policy in Judea and Samaria and vis-à-vis the Gaza Strip" and "constitutes the civilian authority for residential zoning and infrastructure and is responsible for addressing the needs of Israeli settlements in the West Bank."

Amar's predecessor, Brig. Gen. David Menachem, had lead constant efforts to improve and develop the economy and infrastructure of Judea and Samaria, assist the local population, and maintain Israel's security.

Examples include introducing initiatives to develop the agriculture, hi-tech and export sectors in Judea and Samaria; increasing the number of Palestinian workers in Israel; 
facilitating the entrance of Palestinian men over 55 and women over 50 into Israel without requiring a permit; and generally increasing cooperation between Israel and the Palestinians.


Before assuming his COGAT position on February 3rd, Amar served as commander of the IDF's Arab-speaking Sword Battalion, commander of the Hermon Brigade, and commander of the Home Front Command's Northern District.

Amar, 47, was a married father of three and a resident of the Druze town of Julis in the western Galilee, Israeli news site Walla reported.

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said Monday that he was interested in meeting with Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas in New York: "I call on the chairman of the Palestinian Authority to launch direct negotiations in New York and continue them in Jerusalem and Ramallah." Netanyahu added: "I am offering President Abbas the chance to launch peace negotiations instead of wasting time on futile unilateral steps." YNet.com

Abbas responded,"I will meet any Israeli official any time," said Abbas, though he added that “there is no use if there is nothing tangible." The Palestinian Authority's attempt to end-run the Palestinians' signed obligations to conduct direct negotiations with Israel (in accord with the 1993 Oslo Accords) and obtain "national" recognition by the Arab-dominated United Nations- warrants an re-examination of the history and legal status of Israel and the "Palestinian" nationalist movement- the West Bank and Gaza and their irredentist quest to reconquer Israel for the Muslim world.

Rush towards Palestinian statehood disregards 6-years of lessons following Israel's "disengagment" from Gush Katif, Gaza

To commemorate the 6th anniversary of Israel's 'disengagment' of Jews from Gaza, we seek to remind the world lessons to be learned from the exercise of giving Palestinians in Gaza the opportunity to demonstrate their ability to establish a free-republic in the absence of Israelis. Furthermore, how safe Israelis would be by withdrawing their defensive military presence from among Palestinians. This was to be the indicator of how safe Israelis would become by ceding Judea and Samaria for a Palestinian state with Gaza.

Unfortunately, Palestinian Gaza continues to demonstrate using their new border to advance their stated goal of conquering Israel. And if Israel were to withdraw from Judea and Samaria, Hamas would conquer the Palestinian Authority to continue the crusade to conquer the Jewish state. Why, then, after seeing Hamas demonstrate their true intentions for Israel, is the Obama Adminstration (or anyone else) lending credence to Palestinian Arabs' political initiatives for a sovereign state?  And is the Israeli government serious about ceding land to a Palestinian enemy, or just playing along?

his intention to prohibit Jews from living in a potential future Palestinian state. Should Israel uproot some 300,000 more Jews for a promised-peace like Palestinian Gaza has demonstrated?

Israel's Cabinet Finalizes Gush Katif Compensation

The Cabinet voted Sunday to approve a 300 million shekel agreement that ends the claims for compensation by evacuees from Gush Katif and Northern Samaria.

The government stated that the agreement "will allow for the completion of the evacuees' moves to permanent communities and their embarking on a new path. All community representatives, business owners and farmers in Gush Katif 


The 300-million shekel ($87-million) agreement ends the claims for compensation by evacuees from Gush Katif and Northern Samaria.


Agriculturalists who had land in Gush Katif and have not yet received alternative land will receive additional compensation of 400,000 shekels or a monthly payment of 3,400 shekels for 13 years. Alternatively, they will eligible for agricultural land of up to 40 dunams (about 10 acres) in accordance with the previous rules.
